Beauty and the Beast

A special thank you goes out to all our students, cast, and crew involved in this energetic and inspiring musical theater production. In addition to the superb cast and amazing performances, Director Rick Taylor believes this show had a tremendous message: “It is not a message of romance, or fantasy, or entertainment, but one of redemption.  I love how the ‘tale as old as time’ unfolds where a selfish prince and an insecure beauty transform into individuals who put others ahead of themselves, gain newfound courage, and have determination to do what is right in face of adversity.” 

A prideful and selfish prince-Joel Allen is cursed to become a beast for the rest of his life unless he learns how to love and earn love in return. The servants in the castle, Mrs. Potts-Miriam Breithaupt, Chip-Maty Eide, Lumiere-Noah Hilderbrand, Cogsworth-Stephen Culbertson, Grace Gilbert-Wardrobe, Tori Keuhl-Babette, and Darque-Josh Galbraith, also fall under the same spell.  The story takes off when the independent and spirited Belle-Faith McConnell stumbles upon the castle while searching for her father the inventor, Maurice-Colin Pfenning. The beast and castle servants quickly realize that Belle may be their only hope for survival and that’s when the adventure really begins. Back in the town, a larger-than-life hunter, Gaston-Zach Zwanzig casts his eye on Belle and is determined to make her his wife.  He and his sidekick Lefou-Josh Cisco provide over-the-top comedy and dramatic adventure.  In the end, Belle is able to help the beast pull out of his spell and the beast wins the heart of Belle.  This tale as old as time featured wonderful songs such as “Be My Guest” and “Beauty and the Beast.” The show was excellent and a quality production evidencing the hard work and dedication of all those involved!  We appreciate our staff members Mr. Rick Taylor,Theater Director,and Mr. Tom Brown,NWCS Band Director! Special thanks to our theater parents for set construction, costumes, painting, and hospitality. We want to express our gratitude to all the sponsors and volunteers behind the scenes that helped make this production a success!

Career Day!

March 20^nd was an inspiring and memorable day at the High School, as we hosted Career Day with the help of 27 inspiring community business leaders! Students attended three sessions from a variety of industries including: engineering, technology, finance, ministry, law enforcement, health care, construction, law, business, entrepreneurship, marketing, education, coaching, and non-profit business.  Each presenter did an outstanding job sharing their passion for their work and serving God each day in their profession! Our theme came from Ephesians 2:10, “For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do.”  We are thrilled our students had the opportunity to explore and discuss their futures! This special day was sponsored by the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), a developing program at the HS which helps students investigate their giftedness and provides practical training in business, marketing and Biblical leadership. This program helps integrate students into the community through job shadows and internships. We were blessed to have Mark Axton, former EWU and professional basketball player, share with our students his education and transition from basketball to the business world.  Mark shared about the importance of passion and hard work, referencing Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…”.   Thank you to Mrs. Lisa Greer and Mrs. Malinda Nelson for coordinating this awesome event! Thanks to all the guest speakers who led informative and practical break-out sessions for the students.
