On 3/14, we celebrated Pi Day in 5th grade at NWCS. Students learned that Pi is the ratio of the circumference of any circle to its diameter. This number is always the same, from the tiny circle of a human egg to the vast rings of Saturn. Pi is a number that goes on with infinite variety, yet does not repeat itself in any pattern we can discover yet. Fifth-graders created paper chains to the 25th digit of Pi, by using a different color code for each digit. Pi is useful too, since we can use 3.14 times the diameter to find the circumference of a round object, such as the Looff Carousel. We marveled at the intelligent design revealed by Math and Science, pointing to the Architect and Savior of the universe.
