NWCS High School Theater Department Presents Shrek: the Musical
Tickets go on sale February 13, 2023
Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek: The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears.
“Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek….” And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand… and his name is Shrek!
Shrek presents a treasure trove of creative opportunities, including costumes, sets, and more! Irreverently fun for the whole family, Shrek proves that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre.

The overlying philosophy of the Theater Department at Northwest Christian Schools is: We believe we can use the gifts and talents God has given us to glorify Him in all we do. Using these talents is an act of worship ( Colossians 3:23 ). We believe in excellence, integrity, hard work, and total enjoyment of the theatrical process, in other words, FUN!
The goal of High School theater is to produce two plays per year. The Theater Class not only completes a fully-staged “straight play” (meaning non-musical), but also is introduced to basic acting methods and theater history, learns stage direction and blocking, creates a Director’s portfolio, and performs in multiple projects, including perfecting a monologue for auditioning. The Fall production is accomplished through the High School Theater Class curriculum taught and directed by Jennifer Frankovic. The Spring production is an extra-curricular, musical production directed by Rick Taylor and open to all student body grades 6 – 12.
