NWCS Elementary School offers 4th and 5th grade beginning band. The Middle School offers 6th and 7th grade band classes. Finally, our High School provides an 8th – 12th grade band that does it all. The high school band performs as a Concert Band, Jazz Band, and the Crusader Pep Band. All bands get to participate in at least one major community event every year. Events we regularly participate with are the: Jr. Lilac Parade, Gathering of the Bands, Stillwater Music Festival, Music in the Parks at Silverwood and Disney Performing Arts.
We feel that music education is an essential part of a will balanced education. Study after study show that students in band average about 12 points higher in IQ and other standardized tests, then their nonmusical peers. Empower your child with a well-balanced education that includes music. Band will help build skills in discipline, commitment, character, self-confidence and leadership. The camaraderie that is inherent in being a band member helps harbor memories that will last a lifetime.
It is the goal of NWCS Band to foster a “Culture of Music” that will enhance scholastics excellence. NWCS has built a strong band program through a combination of classroom and technology based learning. Class-time practice is important for rehearsing and polishing a musical piece for a concert or performance. Also, it is essential for building camaraderie and teamwork amongst students. The combination of structured practice time at home, accompanied by a guided rehearsal in class, along with strong parental involvement, provide the framework for a strong, fun and memorable band experience.
