For the second year in a row, Northwest Christian Schools has won the WIAA-Washington Army National Guard Scholastic Cup 2B Championship. “This award was designed to recognize the best overall programs in the State both academically and athletically,” WIAA Executive Director Mike Colbrese said. “The achievements of these student-athletes and the leadership at their schools is celebrated through this award.”

A ceremony will be held on Friday October 21st at 6:00pm before the NWC Crusader Homecoming Football game in Cheney at Eastern Washington University’s Roos Field. The award will be presented by WIAA Assistant Executive Director John Miller.

The 2015-2016 school year marks the third time in its history the school has won this award and this is also their eighth top five finish.  The Crusaders also took the Cup in 2006 & 2015.  NWC was the only Scholastic Cup Champion from the east side of the State of Washington among all six WIAA classifications.

Northwest Christian Crusaders passed the St. George’s Dragons, 1,465-1,435 to claim their third Cup with five Academic State Championships – Football, Boys’ Soccer, Girls’ Golf, Boys’ Track and Field, and Girls’ Track and Field.  Other NWC highlights for 2015-2016 included four 2nd place academic state finishes in Boys’ Cross Country, Boys’ Basketball, Girls’ Basketball, and Boys’ Golf. The Crusaders also had two 1st place athletic finishes in Boys’ Basketball and Girls’ Golf and a 2nd place athletic finish in Boys’ Cross Country.

The Scholastic Cup is the WIAA’s most prestigious annual school award.  The Scholastic Cups are based on a point system that includes statewide finishes in academics, athletics, and sportsmanship.  We are very proud of our athletes’ strong showing in all of these categories in 2015-2016.
