NWCS Theater Department Presents: Disney’s Newsies
Thank You!
For everyone who supported our production of Disney’s Newsies – THANK YOU! This was truly a record breaking year, and we could not have done any of it without you. We in the NWCS Theater department believe that everything we do on (and off!) stage is to glorify the Lord, using the gifts and talents that He has given as an act of worship. We thank the Lord for the opportunity to pour it all out on the stage!
Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right! Inspired by a true story, Newsies features the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe.” This fun show tells a fantastic story of finding security and importance of family, identity, and humor as we take a fun, “dancy” romp through history.

The overlying philosophy of the Theater Department at Northwest Christian Schools is: We believe we can use the gifts and talents God has given us to glorify Him in all we do. Using these talents is an act of worship ( Colossians 3:23 ). We believe in excellence, integrity, hard work, and total enjoyment of the theatrical process, in other words, FUN!
The goal of High School theater is to produce two plays per year. The Theater Class not only completes a fully-staged “straight play” (meaning non-musical), but also is introduced to basic acting methods and theater history, learns stage direction and blocking, creates a Director’s portfolio, and performs in multiple projects, including perfecting a monologue for auditioning. The Fall production is accomplished through the High School Theater Class curriculum taught and directed by Jennifer Frankovic. The Spring production is an extra-curricular, musical production directed by Rick Taylor and open to all student body grades 6 – 12.
