NWC Elementary “Pages for Pancakes” costume contestants with Elementary Principal Faith Orr & Librarian Connie Stuhr.

After a summer full of reading, NWC Elementary students ate pancakes in costume while celebrating the reading challenge “Pages for Pancakes.” The program had 26 participants accounting for 1,101 books read.

Kindergarten through 5th grade students gathered on September 18 and showed off their visual display book reports while dressed as their favorite book character. The project winners received gift certificates to the NWC book fair scheduled for
October 19-22 and the character dress-up winners received a coupon for a free McDonald’s Happy Meal.

The program was a fun, exciting and engaging way for the students to expand their reading development and challenged them to learn in a creative way.

The best book character dress up awards went to 2nd grader Jackson Griffin dressed as “Emmett” from The Lego Movie: a Junior Novel by Kate Howard, 3rd grader Addy Stelly as “Mia” from Mia the Bridesmaid Fairy by Daisy Meadows and 3rd grader Joseph Spuler as an indian from a Hardy Boys book by Frank Dixon.

Winners were also named for creativity & content as well as artistic interpretation.
