January 2019 Update

How does our Mission of a Gospel-Centered Education, every day for every student translate into our school life?

In Acts 1:8 Jesus tells his disciples to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the ends of the earth. Here in the NWCS Elementary, we use the terms “Here, Near, and Far” as our Acts 1:8  missions focus .

At the Elementary, we use the terms “Here, Near and Far” as our Acts 1:8  missions focus.

Near: This past week, our fifth graders ventured to Serve Spokane Food Bank and the NWCS Thrift Store to serve as part of their monthly grade level “Near” Spokane ministry partnership opportunity. Through their hard work of helping hands, the kids worked to help these ministries by sorting clothing, cleaning, and organizing food items as a way to shihe light of Christ in our community through practical service projects. Other “Near” grade level ministry initiatives happening throughout the school year include:

K- Veterans Hospital (Cedar K-1 joins)

1st Grade- Hospice and support of a local family

2nd Grade- Avalon Care Center

3rd Grade- Cedar Campus gardens and reading buddies

4th Grade- Union Gospel Mission

5th Grade- Serve Spokane Food Bank, and Northwest Christian Thrift Store

Here: God’s Word is Living and Active (Hebrews 4:12) in every classroom and through each and every school activity. Bible is more than an academic subject. In fact, it is integral to every subject area through biblical enduring understandings both in the classroom and beyond as our passionate Christian teacher point kids to Jesus as the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). or play. We are encouraging our own playground to be an opportunity to share the love of Jesus with one another and build up others through encouragement.

Far: NWCS students will join Mrs. Orr in helping prepare shoe laces for her trip to Mexico for the My 360 “Shoe” Project in Vicente Guerrero, MX. The shoes will be given to refugees through a foot washing opportunity to small children. Also, we will be supporting Sparrows Gate and Castle Christian School in Ensenada, Mexico this school year.Support NWCS Alumni, Jeremy Morris and Jenell (Jennings) Morris in Tanzania, Africa

Support NWCS 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Allen who will be traveling to Laos through the ELIC

Praise the Lord for the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus here, near, and far, as we serve Him together!

Serving Together,

Faith Orr, Elementary Principal
