NORTHWEST CHRISTIAN CLASS OF 2016 READY TO GRADUATE ON SATURDAY, JUNE 4TH

Northwest Christian Schools will graduate 42 students in a unique ceremony on Saturday, June 4th, at 1:00 p.m. at the Activity Center at the Upper Campus in Colbert.

The members of the class of 2016 will follow Northwest Christian tradition in participating in the graduation ribbon cutting ceremony. They’ll stand together in their caps and gowns, united by a portion of a long, wide yellow ribbon. When each student’s name is called, a video presentation of their life appears on a screen. Then the ribbon that unites them is cut, a poignant symbol that the graduate is now ready to leave school and go out into the world.

There are five valedictorians for the NWC class of 2016. They are Erin Whitley, who will attend University of Idaho; Alice Huseland (LeTourneau University); Ian Starkey (Seattle Pacific University); Josh Stuhr (Northwest Nazarene University); and David Olds (United States Naval Academy).  Each valedictorian will give a short speech or have a special part in the ceremony.

Ten graduating seniors will be recognized as 13-year students–a special honor reserved for those who have attended Northwest Christian since kindergarten. Four graduates will be recognized as 12 year seniors, who have attended the school since first grade.

MIDDLE SCHOOL GRADUATION MORE THAN A FORMALITY AT NORTHWEST CHRISTIAN

Fifty-six 8th grade students are set to graduate from Northwest Christian Middle School on Thursday, June 9th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Activity Center at the Upper Campus in Colbert. The middle school graduates will be dressed in formal dresses and elegant suits, but this event is much more than a mere formality.

“The traditional 8th grade graduation at NWC is a rite of passage for our middle school students,” said NWC Middle School Principal Dave Jennings. “The formal setting helps to emphasize the milestone that the students have achieved in completing kindergarten through 8th grade. The diploma students receive signifies that they are prepared for the rigors of high school.”

Most of this year’s graduates have attended all three middle school years at NWC. The middle school shares the Lower Campus with the elementary program. “This class has demonstrated servant-leadership to the younger students on campus by serving as examples and even helping in the elementary classrooms,” said Jennings. “We are very proud of these students.”

Eighth grade valedictorians are Zachary Zwanzig, Madeline McKinney, and Jolene Wood. The valedictorians will each address the graduating class, and receive an engraved medal. Each valedictorian has a three-year middle school G.P.A. of 4.0. Salutatorians (each with 3.99 career G.P.A.s) will also be honored.

Principal Dave Jennings and NWC teachers Tim Hansen and Christina Hilderbrand will address the class. The choir and band will be joined by select 8th grade soloists during the ceremony.  Special character awards will also be given to students who have best exemplified the character of Christ during their middle school years.
