Friday, December 15th, was Alumni Night at the basketball games.  The evening’s theme was vintage night and Crusader fans could purchase past athletic jerseys for only $5!  Alumni received complimentary admission to the games and a coupon for a free popcorn and soda.  Both girls’ and boys’ varsity teams started the night off with wins over the Kettle Falls Bulldogs, but the most anticipated event was the alumni basketball game.  The bleachers were packed with fans and students as twelve players in old school uniforms stepped onto the Crusader court to play in the night’s final match up!  Matt Halpin (2003) was the game’s announcer and with flash and flair, he introduced the players.  With only two substitutions between the two teams the game was a battle of gut and grit!  The green “NWC” team, coached by Aaron Spuler (NWCS boys varsity coach), quickly jumped ahead and maintained the lead going into the second half.  However, Coach Tim Hansen’s (1978) white “Crusaders” team battled back in the second  half.  With some questionable calls from guest officials, Joel Murphy (1995) and John Fazio, and an allegedly dysfunctional score board manned by future alum Zach Wing (Class of 2024), the teams were neck and neck to the very end.  The battle was epic and at the final buzzer the players were empty.  The 2023 NWCS Alumni Night at the basketball games was spectacular.  Filled with fun, family, and friends the evening was a win for everyone!
