Rafe Payne, Ph.D., Class of 1960
Professor Emeritus, Biola University
This spring I will complete my teaching career at Biola University in La Mirada, CA. I have been teaching biology (Parasitology, Marine Mammals, Marine Biology, Ornithology and Ecology) for 50 years! I graduated from Northwest Christian High School in 1960, and have been blessed to have been able to teach in a Christian environment for my entire career. NWCS was quite formative in my life with strong Christian role models as teachers. I still remain in contact with five or six of my high school friends.
I was fortunate to serve as a naturalist on 20 natural history tours of Baja California, Mexico onboard the “Searcher” (bajawhale.com). We have been traveling to Baja for over 40 years and have a house there in the small fishing village of Bahia de Los Angeles where we watch the sun rise over the sea of Cortez.
My wife, Jan, whom I met at Westmont College, and I have been married for nearly 57 years! She has had a great singing/vocal teaching career with “Back to the Bible Broadcast” and Biola University.
God is good!
